2) Go Hiking At Godley Head
There are many great hiking trails in Christchurch, but none are quite as spectacular as the one you’ll find at Godley Head.
Not only does it do a great job of showcasing New Zealand’s natural beauty, it also has a lot of history behind it.
It once served as a coastal defense during WW2, which will certainly be of interest to any history buffs out there.

3) Go Jet Boating

It’s one of the most exciting things to do in Christchurch and one of the most fun ways to enjoy the beautiful Waimakariri River.
You’ll be riding down the river at breakneck speed while experiencing 360-degree spins and hairpin turns.
You have the option of choosing a 30-minute ride or a sixty-minute ride.
The 30-minute tour offers a ride on the Waimakariri River while the 60-minute tours provide two additional options.
One takes you to the Waimakariri Gorge where you can enjoy gorgeous views of the Southern Alps.
The other takes you on a safari to the upper Waimakariri Gorge to places that can’t be reached in any other way.

The Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial exists to pay respect to those whose lives were impacted by this awful tragedy.
This is the place to go if you would like to honour their memory.
The memorial contains a wall with the names of everyone who lost their lives in the earthquake. It also acknowledges those who were seriously injured.
Its 185 empty chairs exhibit is one of the most sombre things to see in Christchurch.
This exhibit consists of 185 white, empty chairs to symbolize those who died in the quake.

7) Go Bungee Jumping
This is another one of the most exciting things to do in Christchurch.
Bungee Jumping has a long history in New Zealand. They practically pioneered this activity which makes it the perfect place to try it for yourself.

From there, you’ll take a 35-metre leap from the historic Ferry Bridge.

8) Visit The International Antarctic Centre
The International Antarctic Centre is one of the biggest attractions in Christchurch.
Its main function is to allow people to enjoy the wonders of Antarctica from the comforts of New Zealand.
It’s a great place to bring your kids, and it’s a lot of fun for adults as well.

Yes, you read that right.
Not only can you take a ride in a helicopter while you’re in Christchurch, you can also try your hand at flying one yourself.
This is a really cool thing you can cross off your bucket list and is a unique experience you can only have in Christchurch.
The flight lasts for thirty minutes.
During this time, a trained instructor will guide you through the steps of taking off, flying, and landing the helicopter.

10) See the Brockworth Street Art Gallery
Art lovers are sure to appreciate this. Christchurch is a city that’s well-known for its street art.
Everywhere you go, you’re sure to find old buildings with brilliant murals painted on their sides. Much of this was made after the earthquakes in an attempt to uplift the spirits of its citizens.
In fact, you can find an entire gallery of these on Brockworth Street. This can be found in the Christchurch suburb of Riccarton.
On this street, you’ll find a wide array of murals painted on the sides of brick walls.
The art you’ll find here ranges from humorous to surreal and is a must-see for anyone who loves art.

11) Go On A Lord Of The Rings Tour
If you’ve ever wanted to explore Middle-Earth for real, this is your chance.
It’s a well-known fact that the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed in the beautiful country of New Zealand.

Some of the key locations you can visit include the settings for the Shire, Edoras, Helms Deep, and the Gardens of Isengard.

The Ko Tane Maori Experience takes you to an interactive replica of an old, Maori village.
